Wildflower Chaos and Golden Hour Magic: A Session with My Girls

Before I bring clients somewhere new I always like to test the waters, so I took my own girls to the wildflower farm for a quick evening shoot. I had high hopes, but what I got felt more like a comedy of errors.

The bugs were brutal. The sun was unrelenting with zero shade to escape to. And let’s be honest, my kids are full fledged photographer’s children which means they know all the tricks and want none of them. I left that evening feeling like it was a total bust. I didn’t even look at the photos for over a week.

But when I finally opened the gallery something shifted.

There, in the golden light, were two little girls completely in their element. They weren’t perfectly posed. I didn’t get every shot I had imagined. But I did capture something far more important: their joy. Their bond. Their laughter. The way they gathered wildflowers like it was the best adventure in the world. And honestly, it might have been.

They’re having the kind of summer they’ll remember forever and now I’ve got the photos to match, mosquito bites and all (mercifully invisible). This little wildflower farm may just be my new favorite location after all.

It’s a reminder to all of us, myself very much included, that beauty doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be real.
